Sally Everitt B.V.Sc. M.R.C.V.S.

Sally qualified from Bristol University in 1981 and had a variety of jobs before spending 3 years abroad in Chile and Spain . For the last 10 years she has been working in a small animal and equine practice in Buckingham where she had developed a particular interest in small animal medicine and “Lifetime Healthcare”.

She first became interested in Clinical Audit and Evidence Based Medicine as a member of the local Community Health Council, looking at the provision of healthcare from the patient's point of view. She was fortunate to be able to attend workshops, run by Muir Gray and the local NHS Trust, and became interested in how she could introduce some of these concepts into veterinary practice.

One of her many roles at work was preparing the practice for the R.C.V.S. Practice Standards Scheme which required her to actually start doing some clinical audit and has brought her face to face with many of the challenges that this involves.

Having answered a letter from Bradley Viner in the Veterinary Record she found herself undertaking an M.Sc. under the auspices of the Professional Development Foundation (PDF) and Middlesex University , which has given her the opportunity to study Clinical Audit in more depth. For her research project she is looking at the information needs of veterinary surgeons introducing clinical audit into their practices and at the feasibility of setting up a web-based resource where we can share information, resources and experiences.
